Q: Will heat kill other pests such as rodents and birds?

A: If these pests can be kept in the heated area they will die. The problem is that they usually have escape routes that allow an exit from the building. Immediately after a Thermal Remediation® treatment is an excellent time to inspect your facility for areas that provide access to the pests and eliminate the openings.

Q: Will the high temperatures damage my equipment?

A: Temperatures up to 150ºF will not damage almost all equipment that is not powered; but if there are any doubts the manufacturer should be contacted to establish a temperature that damage could occur. Thermal Remediation® from TEMP-AIR does not take responsibility for obtaining this information.

Q: Do I need to change my sprinkler heads?

A: If your sprinkler heads are rated at 155ºF, the sprinkler heads will need to be replaced with heads rated at a higher temperature. If they are rated at 185ºF and above, replacement is not needed.

Q: How hot will it be in the building being treated?

A: The intent of heat remediation is to have all areas above the 120ºF lethal temperature. As a practical matter the temperatures will be in a band from 125-135ºF with a few areas a bit hotter and some a little cooler.

Q: How are inside temperatures monitored?

A: Thermal Remediation® from TEMP-AIR uses a state of the art wireless temperature monitoring system. We place wireless sensors throughout the building that send real time temperature data to a monitoring station located outside the heated area.

Q: Are we able to enter the heated area to inspect?

A: Yes, in fact we encourage it. Using heat allows for inspections during the treatment, enabling you to find areas of concern. It is important that when entering an area being heat-treated that you enter with someone, wear gloves, and limit your exposure to no more than 15 minutes. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, exit immediately.

Q: How does Thermal Remediation from TEMP-AIR determine the type and amounts of equipment to use?

A: We consider many things. Each building is unique and requires evaluation by a trained Thermal Remediation® representative. Things considered are the volume and configuration of the building, heat loss, openings, and air distribution.

Q: How long does it take to raise the temperature to 120ºF?

A: The temperature is raised gradually to avoid damage to the building. A rate of 10 degrees of increase per hour is considered to be safe. We would rather take a little longer to bring a building to temperature, than hurry and risk damaging something.

Q: How long do you heat the building after reaching 120ºF?

A: TEMP-AIR recommends, at least for the initial heat remediation, holding lethal temperatures for 24 hours. After the initial treatment, we can evaluate the effectiveness and may be able to reduce the holding time.

Q: How long before the building cools off?

A: Every building is a little bit different. Buildings constructed of concrete, multi-story buildings, and buildings with minimal ventilation systems will take longer to cool than a single story, metal building with exhaust fans. Ambient outdoor temperature is a factor - a higher outdoor temperature will slow the cooling process. Usually after 2 to 6 hours crews can safely start working inside the building.
